Florida is known within the United States for its beaches and palms, perhaps even for its vast wetlands with large populations of wading birds, but its biodiversity is largely underappreciated. Did you know, for example, that Florida is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles coexist? That the same ancient dune habitat that supports the endemic Florida Scrub-Jay, also supports endemic sub-species of Grasshopper Sparrow, Burrowing Owl, and any number of other animals, including a legless lizard that swims through the sand?
