All creatures in the sea and on land have always fascinated Ravinder Kaur since her childhood days. Thus, she pursued a degree in Conservation Biology at University Malaysia Sabah. Upon graduation, she began her career in conservation in Malaysian Nature Society as a Conservation Officer. She then went on her own to further her studies, specializing in hornbills, obtaining a Masters in Ecology (University Malaysia Sabah) and a PhD in Ecology (University Malaya). In 2015, Ravinder established a social enterprise called Gaia with her husband Sanjitpaal Singh, an award-winning wildlife photographer. Together they work with local communities to research and conserve endangered hornbills throughout Malaysia with their long term ngo partner HUTAN/KOCP. This partnership led to over twenty artificial nest boxes being erected. In 2017, Ravin and her team were awarded the CLP Future Conservationist Leadership Award and the Christian Marsh Award in 2020. The team has published several papers on hornbills over the project duration. Ravin is also a member of the IUCN Species Specialist Group for Hornbills and the Helmeted hornbill working group.
